It’s time to Spring clean

Is there anything better than a Spring clean? Well, yes. It’s that feeling of turning the door handle and walking into an immaculately clean home when you haven’t so much as lifted a sponge.

We spoke to the experts who shared their top five practical tips to help deep clean this spring:

1.      A baking soda paste + a toothbrush = cleaning elixir. Mix baking soda with water to form a thick paste and use it to scrub grout lines and remove mould, clean countertops and hobs and even remove stains from fabric or carpet. Let it sit then scrub gently, rinse and hoover up any excess. For tougher stains, mix with a little dish soap or vinegar.

2.      High-level dusting. It’s easy to forget about what we can’t see, but see this as your sign to dust the tops of your cabinets. If you’re struggling to reach, wrap a microfiber cloth around a broom handle and slide from side to side.

3.      Cleaning vents. Doing this yearly is better than not at all! Blocked vents are the number one contributor to condensation and mould growth. Making sure the power is switched off, unscrew or unclip the vent cover and simply soak it in hot, soapy water – and don’t forget to carefully wipe down the fan blades whilst they’re exposed too!

4.      Manage the microwave.  It can be tempting to shut the door and “deal with that later”, but when later never comes, things can get pretty nasty. For an effortless clean, fill a microwave-safe bowl with a half cup of water and few lemon slices or a splash of vinegar inside. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes until the window gets steamy then leave the door shut for 5 minutes. After this time, the steam loosens all the dried grime and you can wipe the entire interior clean with a damp cloth.

5.      Put on some music! Okay, perhaps not a strictly cleaning hack, but our experts were all in agreement that some good tunes make the time pass quicker and increases your tolerance of a no-so desirable task. 80’s gold? Heavy metal? What’s your pick?
