Named after two-year-old Awaab Ishak who died due to mould exposure in his home in Rochdale, Awaab’s Law, aims to hold landlords accountable for addressing serious health hazards particularly damp and mould. While Awaab’s Law originates in England (due to come into force in October 2025) the Scottish Government has committed to implementing similar protections through amendments to the Housing (Scotland) Bill.
Mould spores can exacerbate respiratory conditions, allergies and asthma and even cause severe illness, especially in children, the elderly or those with an underlying health issue.
